Day Late, Dollar Short

Well I have been ever so busy these last few days, and I still feel like I’m behind on everything…

However! I did just finish the edit-pass on Our Lady of the Islands, that I’ve been working on all week, since Editor Jak sent me notes…I’ve made some subtle but important changes, I think. At least I’m happy with them. I’m going to want Mark to go over what I’ve done, though, since he helped so much in the rewrite.

And we’ve been doing a ton of wedding-work, too. We’ve got the website pretty much done; and invitations printed; and the guest list…well, still working on that. We had it down near 300, and now, I can’t quite explain it, it’s at 395. And nobody has been sent any invitations, or even save-the-dates…we do truly hope to get invitations out in the next week or so. We’ll see. I bought 200 pretty stamps today.

And do you know how much wedding cakes cost? I will tell you how much wedding cakes cost. A wedding cake for this wedding, just a standard average price of wedding cakes, nothing particularly fancy, would cost AS MUCH AS MY ENTIRE FIRST WEDDING (in 1989). I am not kidding you.

So, we are looking into other options.

Hmm, what else? Our short-term roommate/long-term house guest is working out very well. She is tidy and quiet, she is almost always out, and she’s already given me two very awesome massages. I wish she could stay forever. 🙂

I didn’t manage to get a picture of the newly-bloomed dahlia before the wind and rain and HAIL the other day knocked it all to pieces. But more are coming. I’ll get photos soon…

Oh, and a cooking triumph. I felt like cassoulet tonight, but was not equipped (in supplies or knowledge) to make it so. So instead, I made an interpretation that I call “If some old Italian guy remembered the cassoulet he had that one time he was in Paris when he was young, and went to his kitchen and his garden and grabbed what he could find and cooked it all up.” And OH MY GOD it was good. Aidell’s habanero-and-some-kind-of-cheese sausage; cannelini beans; loads of fresh oregano; loads of garlic; parmesan cheese; chopped zucchini at the last minute….YUM.

There, now you’re caught up. Mark is upstairs working on a map for Our Lady, because it’s a book that needs a map. And I’m supposed to go look at fonts for it…
