News from the Garden

I promised you a dahlia photo and SEE, my word is good, in fact I give you TWO!
Dahlia Dahling
This one isn’t even fully open yet. It’s just going to get better and better.

This one is the one I kept promising you:
Another Dahlia
It still isn’t all it could be; these don’t last very long at all, before their petals fall off! But they are quite cute.

In other garden news, the lantana is looking lovely:

But don’t think the garden is all just for show! In addition to the two new zucchinis, which I can’t show you a picture of because we’ve already eaten them in zucchini pancakes, I have loads of cherry tomatoes, and some Large Tomato Futures:

And, SO EXCITING: eggplant futures!
Eggplant Futures
I’ve never grown eggplant before. I can’t wait to see how they come out.

Other things happened too. I turned in the re-re-re-revision of Our Lady of the Islands this morning–that’s the last round of edits, honest! ARCs are being made next week–so yeah, there will be a proofing round eventually, but, no more revisions of any substance. WHEW. And Mark finished a gorgeous map for the book, which I will show you as soon as Editor Jak gives the okay.

And then, because we had gotten so much accomplished, we actually took a few hours off and went to a movie this afternoon! First time in many months. We saw Maleficent, which I enjoyed, but Mark thought fell a little flat. He’s a tough audience, while I can be pretty noncritical, because I watch so little, of anything. Just seeing big pictures on a screen, moving around, with pretty music and all–yeah, that works. I saw it as a fairy tale, which it is, so logic jumps and unrealistic characters…didn’t really bother me, like they would in a novel.

Oh and the first round of wedding invitations are going out tomorrow! To overseas folks, and parents. Many more to follow. MANY more. Ahem.
