Delayed Gratification Is Delayed

So, faithful readers will recall that Mark and I were both sick last week, rendering our planned Valentine’s Day celebration (nice dinner out, Cirque du Soleil) inconvenient and implausible.

So a day or two before, I phoned the Cirque, got this nice lady with a strong French accent, explained the situation, and she cheerfully rescheduled my tickets for a week later. Thursday the 21st, yes yes yes. All good, even nearly the same seats. Hooray!

Today I drove to Seattle; Mark and I exchanged cards and small presents, then got dressed up, went to a spectacular dinner at The Stone House in Redmond, and then drove over to the Cirque venue. Paid our $15 and parked, got to the big tent, handed over the tickets, and…

Beep, red error message. Beep.

We were sent to the box office…where a nice lady pointed out that the tickets we were holding are for MARCH. Thursday MARCH 21st. Not Thursday FEBRUARY 21st. And no, there are no seats left for tonight, sorry.

Well.

So, we went back to the car–catching the parking attendants as they were pulling away and getting them to put a signature on our ticket (so hopefully it’ll work next month…); drove back to the restaurant and picked up Mark’s forgotten umbrella (and made reservations again for next month, because OMG you guys, what an incredible dinner we had); then drove back to Seattle.

It’ll be the Valentine’s Day that never ends! (here’s me looking at the bright side, because, what else are you going to do?)

And yes, I’ll be calling the nice folks at Cirque tomorrow and seeing what they can do to ease the pain of this a little. Because, you know, this was our second try at Valentine’s Day. I drove up from Portland, and dressed up and drove another hour to Redmond and had a spiffy dinner (okay that part wasn’t so bad) and–you know. What part of “can I reschedule this to next week” did they not understand?

Third time’s the charm! 🙂
