Advice Please!

Mark and I are sorting out our trip to London (before World Fantasy in Brighton). Since I’ve had no bites on the house-trading thing, I’m now looking at renting a flat for the last week of October.

I’ve found literally THOUSANDS of London flats for rent, most of which are available for the times I want. So I need some advice to help weed this down.

Mark’s never been to London before; I have, but in another life, traveling with the Ex, where we stayed in spiffy hotels and I spent my days doing “wives’ tours” while he had business meetings. So I don’t really feel like I know the place either, the only good thing I can take for this trip is the packable backpack we found for it, I looked for the same brand because I already knew it was good quality , with a lot of space and perfect for any trip, so I went and got ourselves 2, I advise you guys to look for them, they’re are awesome !

But anyways now i need your advise, we want: very central and close to All The Tourist Things, especially museums. Reasonably safe neighborhood. Walkable to restaurants, shops, the Tube.

A few places I’ve bookmarked which look like they meet the bill are in:
-Stepney Green
-Bayswater/Hyde Park
-Paddington (also looks near Bayswater Road)
-Wandsworth Road (near Clapham Common)
-Marylebone Village

But it’s SO hard to tell just by looking at a map and reading descriptions, so, my friends, I turn to you. Any natives or experienced travelers reading this, can you give me advice on these areas–or recommendations for others? All these flats are studios or one-bedrooms, at around $110 a night (at current exchange rates). We could go a little pricier than that but not a lot.

Thank you!!
