Away Again

Yes, yes, we have hit the road again, traveling to southern California for family business.

Because reasons (dollars), we drove. So we left Portland yesterday afternoon.

We had ALL THE WEATHERS. All of them. Rain when we left Portland, then some sun, then LOTS of rain, then rainbows which were so spectacular they looked fake–which were impossible to photograph, but we tried anyway, and it didn’t look like this at all, but here:
Double Rainbow
Oh and hail so hard I thought it was going to crack the windshield, and heavy fog, and road-spray, and don’t forget SNOW, as we crossed the pass late at night–here we are behind the snow plow:
Snowy Pass
…and then the nastiest weather of all: LA Traffic.
LA Traffic

In between all that, we stayed the night in Red Bluff, which….well, now I understand why we usually stay in Redding or Yreka. Yeah.

And so we saw lots of family tonight, including navigating LAX to pick up my brother, who is a wuss and decided to fly from the Bay Area (barely a six hour drive!), rather than taking sixteen hours over two days to drive like real rugged mountaineers do. Or something.

Even so, we made good use of our driving time, discussing plot points of Our Lady and even getting some writing in, when not driving. And now it is late and much sleepiness abounds. Ooh, look, a bed!
