It probably took the protagonist 10,000 words too many, and they will all be cut by my co-author (if he’s as smart as he usually is, anyway), but: she has now seen the clue that was the whole reason for this insanely divergent digression, and now the plot can begin moving forward again as planned.
First Quarter, 2009 Total new words of fiction written: 36,496. Which includes: 1 novel rewrite completed (Nightcraft Mother); 1 novel taken from 15,000 words to 43,500 (Entangled); 1 short story started and finished (Teratology); 1 short story started (as yet unnamed). 15 stories submitted to markets. 11 rejections received (includes stories submitted in 2008). 3

I crossed 40,000 words on ENTANGLED today, or halfway to the more or less arbitrary 80K goal. But, I’m about halfway through the outline, so we’ll call it good. Then I wrote a few hundred words starting my portion of a new collab with Jay Lake. I am all about the collaborative writing these days!

No word count yesterday…my dad was here, spending the night so he could go to a trade show downtown. It was nice to see him, fun to show him my new place, and lovely to be bought dinner. 🙂 We spent a lot of time getting caught up, as you might imagine. He was real
