Yes, An Island; (or), The Other Blue Heron

So we were just now finishing up dinner, and contemplating whether Mark wanted to drive to town to see if he could find some ice cream, with a side discussion about how all the ice cream on the island is either unsatisfactory, or ruinously expensive, or both, and how we should buy or borrow an ice-cream maker for the duration of the winter, when the phone rang, and it was someone wondering if we had a room available for tonight!

“Why yes,” Mark said, “we do.” {as I was thinking, Yay, I cleaned all the rooms and did all the laundry!} “What ferry are you coming on?”

From which proceeded a long and confused discussion, the outcome of which was that the caller had mistaken us for some other Blue Heron Inn, to which you do not have to take a ferry.

The upshot of all that is that Mark has indeed gone to town to look for ice cream, and I am savoring again the quietness of here, as the last of our weekend guests left this morning. And we were sad to see them go, because it was a nice visit; though it was also a nice productive day–I finished a very entertaining freelance job, and Mark made a good start on a fun illustration for a friend’s Kickstarter, about which you will probably hear more soon.

Oh, and the Blue Heron that we are, is this one. In case you were thinking of coming to see us this winter. Ahem.
